About Gear Gossip

What this is

Gear Gossip is a review aggregator with opinions. For every product we cover, we read the owner reviews, Reddit threads, forum posts and expert reviews we can find, tag every opinion by what it's about and whether it's good or bad, and turn that into a 0 to 100 Gossip Score.

We don't test products ourselves. We say so on every page, because it's the point: a single tester sees one unit for a few weeks, and owners see thousands of units for years.

What we add

• One comparable number per product, with its sample size and confidence shown next to it.
• The Tea: the top praises and complaints, each with its share of mentions and a linked example.
• Hype Gap: how far expert reviews drift from what owners report.
• Regret Rate: how often complaints describe a failure after months of use.

The full method is public on How we score.

Who runs it

Gear Gossip is run by Brooks Venters, a performance marketer based in Carlsbad, California. He also does marketing for consumer and outdoor brands, in-house and through an agency. Gear Gossip doesn't cover a category where he or his agency works for a brand in it, and it never scores a client's product.

How we make money

Affiliate commissions when you buy through our links. That money never changes a score. Details are on our Disclosure page.
